Frito pie is a classic dish loved by many. Here, we place it in a portable jar that makes it easier than eating it in that tiny Fritos bag. Plus, this travels well. Just put the lid on the jar and take it on a picnic. Good to go!

Chili Recipe

  • 80 pound 80\20 ground beef

  • 1 small Vidalia onion – diced

  • 1 large can diced tomatoes

  • 1 packet chili seasoning

  • Frito Pie Assmebly
  • 1 bag Frito corn chips

  • 1 small Vidalia onion – diced

  • 1 cup Sour Cream

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese

  • Chili Seasoning
  • 4 ounces Chili Powder

  • 4 ounces Cumin powder

  • 2 ounces Dried oregano

  • 1 ounce Garlic powder

  • 1 ounce black pepper

  • 1 ounce salt

Chili

  • combine all chili seasoning ingredients. Mix well and set aside.
  • heat larger pot on stove to medium\high heat. Add ground beef and a few tablespoons of the chili seasoning. Cook until browned. Drain in colander.
  • Return pot back to stove. Medium\high heat add a little oil. Add diced onion and two tablespoons of chili seasoning. Cook for about 23 minutes then add the can of diced tomato along with the juice from the can. Add two more tablespoons of the chili seasoning.
  • Add the drained ground beef back into the tomato and onion sauce. continue to cook for about 30 more minutes. Occasionally add more chili seasoning as you see fit.
  • It is very important to taste as you go at this point to fine tune your personal flavor profile. You may add more salt if need. A squeeze of lime. Anything that you deem worthy to add to the perfect chili. After all…it is your dish.

  • First layer should be the Fritos. This is normally the base of all Frito pies.
  • Next add a layer of the chili.
  • Then the shredded cheese, diced onion and then the sour cream.
  • Of course you can mix and match layers. Add or subtract items as you deem necessary. Some good additions would be jalapeno, shredded lettuce, black olives, green onions or whatever else.
